ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. — The St. Bonaventure University men’s basketball team announced sophomore forward Mason Blackwood will be sidelined after sustaining a fluke foot injury following the team’s exhibition game with the Pennsylvania State University, his former school, on Oct. 17.

“Following the preseason game against Penn State, Mason was disappointed over a close loss and kicked something in the locker room, resulting in a fluke injury,” said head coach Mike MacDonald.

A former four-star recruit from Rochester, New York, Blackwood appeared in 26 games last season with Penn State. He averaged 2.6 points, 1.8 rebounds and 12.2 minutes per game.

“As a program and university, we fully stand by Mason and are proceeding with this as a learning opportunity,” said MacDonald. “He’ll remain focused on his academics and recovery.”

Blackwood recorded 15 points and four rebounds in 27 minutes in the 68-65 loss.

“We took a lot of positives out of the Penn State performance and our entire team continues to prepare for the season,” said MacDonald.

Blackwood will undergo further evaluation, and the team will provide updates as appropriate.

Bonaventure opens its season at home with Youngstown State University on Monday, Nov. 2, at 7 p.m. in the Reilly Center.
