The Rathskeller at St. Bonaventure University is a popular dining spot amongst students and hosts several events throughout the school year. The ‘Skeller serves pub-style food and has several activities for students to enjoy.

Ashley Snyder, a sophomore triple certification education major, enjoys going to the ‘Skeller with her friends for different food options.

“I enjoy going to the ‘Skeller because it offers different food options from the Hickey [Dining Hall],” said Snyder.

Recently, the ‘Skeller extended its hours. Students and staff will be able to utilize ‘Skeller’s space throughout the day, as opposed to a limited time in the evening. However, meal exchange hours remain the same.

The new ‘Skeller hours are from 10 a.m. to 12 a.m. Monday through Friday and from 12 p.m. to 12 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Access through the ‘Skeller before 6 p.m. will be through the Hickey Dining Hall interior stairs, near the dish return, during the week.

Nicole Clark, Aramark general manager, said extending hours gives students the opportunity to utilize the space during the day.

“We decided to allow student access and use of the Rathskeller during the day,” said Clark. “This provides an additional space for students to hang out, study, eat from Hickey, and use the games.”

Cadence Rogers, a sophomore criminology and psychology double major, has spent time in the ‘Skeller during its extended hours.

Rogers utilized the space for studying. She said it was strange with nobody else in the ‘Skeller with her, but it was also a unique experience.

“It was weird, there was no one really in there but it was cool,” said Rogers. “[It was] the same, just quiet.”

Rogers is likely to use the space regularly, unlike Snyder. Snyder is unlikely to utilize the ‘Skeller during the day due to her class schedule.

Faculty and staff also enjoy the new ‘Skeller hours.

Tara Leonard, director of sexual violence protection, is willing to use the ‘Skeller for different programming opportunities. Leonard would use the space for Empower, the group she advises, to host events.

Leonard would also enjoy the space if they offered coffee all day.

“It’d be nice if they had coffee or something,” said Leonard.

Despite the hours of operations being extended, the meal exchange hours are remaining the same.

Snyder believes the ‘Skeller should offer meal swipe exchanges throughout the day. She finds it beneficial for the usage of the space.

“I feel that the ‘Skeller should offer an additional time for meal swipes,” said Snyder. “It would be more beneficial for the new hours and more students are likely to use it during those times.”

Emma Phillips, a sophomore psychology major, agrees with Snyder. Phillips suggests the ‘Skeller offers meal swipe exchange during common hours.

“It might be nice to have [a] lunch meal exchange hours,” said Phillips. “Even if it’s only an hour I feel that’s plenty of time.”

However, Phillips and Rogers are content with the current ‘Skeller meal exchange hours. According to Phillips, she only attends the ‘Skeller during its usual meal exchange hours and likes it.

“I usually go down [to the ‘Skeller] after dinner if I couldn’t find anything at the Hickey,” said Phillips. “I’ll just go down and grab something quick.”
