The color brown isn’t trendy, we just go to St. Bonaventure

As a lifelong brunette, the color brown and I have always clashed. Brown corduroys? I wish I could rock them. Brown sweaters? Don’t even get me started. Before attending St. Bonaventure University, I never had the color brown in my closet. I even strayed away from brown shoes, which isn’t easy in a parochial school where uniform shoes are mandatory.

I have to admit that the summer going into my freshman year, I collected plenty of brown clothes because I was convinced that it was absolutely necessary. From sweatshirts to sweatshorts (basically a brown sweatsuit), brown leggings and t-shirts; I actually went crazy. I even dyed my hair a freshly black color in order not to clash with my new brown wardrobe.

For a while, it was a look. Or at least I thought it was. But then I came to a realization on how one-note the color brown is. I used to view it as a “cool girl” color, something that was only to be worn confidently. But I have gotten sick of it. I’m not a “cool girl”, I just play one on tv. OK, I am just kidding, but c’mon girlies (and boys), it’s 2023! Different colors exist, Bonnies. It’s time to start wearing them! That’s not to say that brown is completely out; there will always be a time and a place when the color brown slays.

So no, the color brown isn’t trendy, we just go to Bonaventure. But do not fear! I am your girl and I’m here to tell you what colors are IN! For starters, green is the new “it” color for spring. My favorite shade of green is sage, but everyone loves a classic forest or even an eye-catching seafoam green. And you’re in luck —get it, luck— because St. Patrick’s Day darty (day party) season is upon us. There is no better time to step out in spring’s new top color than to do it festively.

Another top color is purple! Nothing works better in the spring than a lovely lavender. Plus, purple is THE new neutral (article coming soon) so it is a must-have for the new season!

So where does this leave us? Do not throw away your brown clothes! I am positive you rock them! Just maybe consider trying out some new, non-Bonaventure-related colors every once in and while. I just want everyone to feel like a cool girl (or boy)!
