St. Bonaventure University’s Campus Activities Board is heading to Hershey, Pennsylvania this week to attend a convention hosted by the Association for Promotion of Campus Activities intended to help groups like CAB discover and hire event agencies.

This year, CAB has been responsible for planning and executing events such as trips to New York City or Washington D.C, painting nights, bingo and trivia nights for students.

“We’re going to see what’s out there and what can be brought back to St. Bonaventure,” Keppel said. “We try to plan a wide variety of events.”

The trip serves two purposes: to expose the three CAB members attending to new ideas for future events and to new experiences. This is an opportunity for CAB to strengthen its event planning for the future and gain knowledge on the process of event planning.

“I’m really excited to meet new people and be able to bring new activities back to campus,” Carly Williams, a CAB member, said.

The students attending the conference said they are very excited to be able to experience this trip.

The conference is split into three parts: showcases, education sessions and an exhibit hall. The showcases are an opportunity for several agencies to perform and show what they have to offer.

Even though the showcase is what’s going to be the most beneficial to the agencies, the education sessions are what’s going to be the most beneficial to CAB, according to Keppel. In these sessions, the club members will learn how to properly plan events and promote them. This will help the members plan better and more efficiently in the future.

The exhibit hall is similar to a club fair. There will be several tables set up throughout the hall each with a different agency promoting its events.

“Events range from educational events on things like diversity and inclusion,”  Jack Kennedy, CAB member, said, “to obscure country singers and a Taylor Swift cover band.”

Alongside hearing about the agencies, the CAB members will be able to meet other schools and their members. This can give insight on how other schools plan events and what events they offer. Learning  to converse with the agencies and other clubs is a skill that will be taught at this event, and will be very beneficial to the young members.

“By going to this conference, we can almost ensure that we’ll find something for everyone on campus,” Kennedy said.
