In its first season under head coach Brendan Storrier, the St. Bonaventure men’s lacrosse team opened the year 2-1, rebounding from an early loss with back-to-back victories.
Bonaventure enters its first season without head coach Randy Mearns, who the program parted ways with after eight seasons.
It announced Brendan Storrier as the new head coach in June 2025 and named Peter Collins and Lance Olson assistant coaches.
Storrier compiled a 66-13 overall record with four straight NCAA Division II Tournament appearances in four seasons as head coach at Limestone University in South Carolina.
Senior attacker Blake Maracle followed Storrier from Limestone to Bonaventure. He played three seasons and appeared in 41 games, tallying 22 goals and 13 assists. Maracle, a health science and psychology major, recorded 12 goals and nine assists last season.
Junior long-stick midfielder Brandan Buncke also followed Storrier to Bonaventure. Buncke, a health science major, recorded 11 ground balls and seven caused turnovers in two seasons with the Saints.
Bonaventure lost its top five scorers from last season, including attackers Connor Murphy, Jake Kucinski and Kellen Pulera, along with midfielders Drew Kenney and Kyle Pepper.
Junior attacker Patrick Shanahan, the team’s sixth-leading scorer last season, returns after recording 16 goals and six assists in 16 starts last season. Shanahan, a biology major, has totaled 31 goals and 15 assists in 28 games played and started over two seasons with the Bonnies.
Bonaventure’s 2026 season opener at the Virginia Military Institute was postponed due to a winter storm. A new date has not been announced.
The Bonnies dropped their first game at Bucknell, 11-2. The game was moved up one day to Friday, Feb. 6, due to extreme cold in the forecast on Saturday, Feb. 7.
They have won back-to-back games since, earning a 10-9 road win over Binghamton University on Saturday and a 14-11 home win over Robert Morris University on Tuesday.
Led by sophomore attacker and midfielder Cole Kucinski’s five goals, Bonaventure outscored Binghamton 4-1 in the final 7:59.
The Atlantic 10 named goalie Isaac Farmer its Defensive Player of the Week after he posted a .625 save percentage at Binghamton.
The United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association selected Cole Kucinski to its National Team of the Week. He leads Bonaventure with nine points, all goals. Shanahan follows with five points on four goals and one assist.
The Bonnies look to win their third straight when they host Bellarmine University on Tuesday, Feb. 24, at noon.
