Men’s soccer falls to VCU in season finale

Richmond, VA- The St. Bonaventure men’s soccer ended their season with a 4-0 shutout loss against Virginia Commonwealth University Saturday night.

VCU midfielder, Jonathan Kanagwa, dominated in the Ram’s win with two goals and two assists, having a part in all four goals. 

Kanagwa scored the first goal of the game in the 21st minute off an assist by Tucker Mohammed, giving the Rams a one nothing lead early on. 

Later in the half, VCU midfielder Andrey Salmarone scored the second goal of the game in the 31st minute of the first half. This goal put VCU up 2-0. The Rams held this lead going into the second half.  

In the second half, VCU forward Papa Toure scored goal number three in the 65th minute off another Kanagwa assist. Kanagwa scored the fourth and final goal of the game, assisted by Andres Rodriguez. 

Bonaventure midfielder, Rafeal Perreira, nearly scored a goal with six minutes left, hoping to avoid the shutout, but VCU goalie John Ermini came through with the save. 

The Bonnies finish their season 6-7-4 overall and 2-5-1 in conference. The victory makes VCU Atlantic 10 regular season champions and guarantees them the one seed going into the tournament.
