Women’s Swimming and Diving Loses Heartbreaker, Men fall to Binghamton

Coming off of their most impressive victories of the season on December 3 against Canisius, the St. Bonaventure men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams looked to keep the momentum rolling in a dual meet at Binghamton on Jan. 21.

By the end of the day, the Bearcats got the best of the Bonnies, as the men fell by a score of 148-95, while the women lost a heartbreaker, 121-120.

On the women’s side St. Bonaventure placed third and fourth in the women’s 200 yard medley relay, clocking in times of 1:47.85 and 1:52.88 respectively, while Kate Beyer placed third in the 1000 yard freestyle with time of 11:09.01and Maria Mangini placed sixth at 11:31.96.

Ellie Kraus picked up three victories for the Bonnies in the 200 yard freestyle, and led her team to victory in the 200 yard freestyle relay and 100 freestyle. St. Bonaventure swept the top three spots in that event. Silvana Cabrera picked up a victory in the 100 yard butterfly and Hailey Myers and Amy O’Rourke finished first and second in the 50 yard freestyle. 

On the men’s side, Luigi Termine led his team to a second place finish in the Men’s 200 yard medley relay and Max Murray and Mikolaj Synowiec finished second and third in the 1000 yard freestyle, clocking in at 9:33.54 and 9:53:20. St. Bonaventure would finish third, fourth and sixth in the 200 yard freestyle, led by Alexander Behr with a time of 1:43.93, while Kyle Gluck placed fourth in the 50 yard freestyle and Nick Nakaya placed second in the 200 yard individual medley.

On the diving board, Kylie McKee placed second in the women’s one meter diving with a final score of 205.35 and Mary Kate Wilson placed fourth with a score of 173.63. Wilson placed second in the three meter dive. On the men’s side, Ben Giara led the way with a score of 309.30, while Lucas Dekaney and Davis Hutchinson placed third and fourth with scores of 284.63 and 257.18 respectively on the 3 meter dive, while Garcia placed first in the men’s one meter dive with a score of 282.00

The Bonnies will host their final dual meet of the season before the Atlantic 10 championships, welcoming the Gannon Golden Knights to the Reilly Center pool on Saturday. The diving portion will begin at 10 a.m. and both teams will honor their season prior to the swim events beginning at 1:15 p.m.
