The hit HBO Max show, “The Sex Lives of College Girls,” is back for season two. The easily loveable comedy comes from producer Mindy Kaling and showrunner Justin Noble. “We are delighted that this comic, honest portrayal of the college condition has resonated for everyone, whether they had sex in college or not,” said HBO’s head of original content, Sarah Aubrey, in a statement. “We can’t wait to see where these uniquely complex yet relatable characters will go next.”

The first season of “The Sex Lives of College Girls” premiered on Nov. 18 and was an instant hit, making it the biggest launch of an original comedy on HBO Max in 2021. The series hit “new platform highs each week,” according to the streaming platform. It is no wonder that the show was renewed so quickly after season one ended.

The show follows four college roommates who go to school at the fictional Essex College as they figure out how to navigate campus life, sex, their identity and create new friendships during their freshman year.

The stars of the show are Pauline Chalamet (Kimberly), Amrit Kaur (Bela), Reneé Rapp (Leighton) and Alyah Chanelle Scott (Whitney). They are all likely to return for season two, but it is still unclear whether more of the returning cast members such as Midori Francis (Alicia) and Lauren Spencer (Jocelyn) will join the cast of season two.

Gavin Leatherwood, who plays Nico, has announced that he will not be returning to the show for season two. “There is a season two, but I’m not going to go back,” Leatherwood said to US Weekly. He did say that he was “happy to do the first season,” but he has decided that he will be “branching off and going in a different direction.”

As the season one cast began to talk to news outlets about the show, the cast emphasized how important it was to be a part of a show that portrays young women’s sex lives in a very honest light.

“It’s about the messiness, especially at that age, everyone’s figuring it out, it’s awkward,” said Chalamet. “I mean, few people know their bodies exactly and what they like. I think that there’s room with these characters to explore further what that means for them.”

Unfortunately, there is no release date set yet but HBO Max has confirmed to viewers that the show will return to screens by late 2022. Just like season one, season two is going to be ten episodes long with each episode being around 30 minutes long.

It is expected that two to three episodes will be released at a time again on HBO Max, making the show easy to binge in your free time.
