St. Bonaventure women fall to Bucknell, 72-60

St. Bonaventure looked to bounce back at home playing host to the Bucknell Bison on Monday, but lost, 72-60.

Bucknell won possession on the tipoff and never looked back. They led wire-to-wire. The Bison jumped out to a 7-2 lead. Bucknell junior forward Carly Krsul hit a buzzer-beating layup as the horn sounded to close out the first quarter. The Bison led, 18-12.

The second quarter was no different as the Bison kept their foot on the gas. Bucknell pushed its lead up to 23-14 after senior guard Marly Walls hit a jumper early in the quarter. The lead was extended to as many as 12 before the Bison took a 33-24 halftime lead.

The Bonnies came out the gate in the second half looking to have the momentum. After trailing by double-digits going into the break, the Bonnies started out with third quarter with an 8-0 run powered by sophomore guard Maddie Dziezgowski. She finished with a career-high 16 points. 

A Tori Harris 3-pointer inched the Bonnies closer and cut the lead to within six to 41-35. The Bison quickly struck back and ended the third period on a 15-2 run as the Bison started to pull away with a 56-37 lead heading into the final quarter of play.

In the fourth quarter, the Bonnies cut the lead to nine points with under two minutes remaining after a 3-point play for senior guard Asianae Johnson. Late down the stretch, the Bison converted six free throws and held on the rest of the way out as the Bison won by 12.

The Bonnies finished the game shooting 40% from the field compared to 41% for the Bison. The Bonnies got outrebounded 41-33. Leading the way for the Bonnies, Dziegowski had a career night with a career high 16 points. She ended the contest 6-12 from the field and 4-8 from behind the arc which are also career highs. She also pulled down five rebounds. Harris notched her first double-double of the season with 15 points and 11 rebounds. Johnson also tallied in double figures, ending the game with 16 points.
