Sophomores succeed as eyes turn toward Atlantic 10 Classic

On Saturday afternoon, the Bonnies women’s swimming and diving team hosted Colgate University, sweeping all 13 events.
Sophomores Mia Cote and Katrina Wardner led the dominating victory for the Bonnies.
“It was a great way to start the dual meet season,” Cote said. “Especially winning our first home meet.”
In the 200-Freestyle, Wardner placed first, timed at 2:00.22, and Cote placed second in the 200-butterfly at 2:09.04. Both athletes were extremely pleased after the victory at the Reilly Center pool.
Cote and Wardner were also victorious in the 400-freestyle along with fellow teammates Rachel Taylor and Zanre Oberholzer finishing with a time of 3:42.70.
Although Wardner admits that the team had a great meet, she explained why the team must stay focused on what’s ahead.
“While our team had a great meet, there is always room for improvement.” said Wardner. “The team is feeling confident, but is primed to stay focused on the task in hand, and that is the A10 championships.
Cote expresses that she was enthused by what the team was able to do in their last meet, and that they hope to keep building on the performance.
“I’m excited to see where this journey will take us and where we will finish at Atlantic 10 Championships,” Cote said.
Cote, excited about her progress, admits that there is still room to improve and things to work on.
“It shows how my hard work has paid off and how I am ahead of where I was last season,” Cote said, “But there’s always room for improvement.”
With plenty of time left in the season, Wardner believes that the team can only go up from here and improve meet-by-meet.
“As we progress through the season, we can focus more on details and getting our times down,” Wardner said.
Wardner states that consistency and improvement week-by-week will be detrimental to the teams overall success this season.
“I’m hoping we can stay consistent throughout the season,” Wardner said. “Then I hope we are able to see major improvements at our conference meet.”
Both Wardner and Cote said their biggest room for improvement is their underwaters.
“For expectations, I don’t really have any,” Cote said. “With a new coach, team and atmosphere, it is difficult to set expectations.”
The sophomore duo of Cote and Wardner will be back in action for the Atlantic 10 Classic at Spire Institute in Geneva, Ohio on Saturday, Oct. 27 and Sunday, Oct. 28.
