The St. Bonaventure women’s lacrosse team has faced a tough season, going 0-6 in Atlantic 10 conference play and 0-14 overall this spring.
Injuries have played a large role in preventing the Bonnies from picking up a win this season.
“We have unfortunately experienced a lot of serious injuries on our team that have taken some key players out of the game,” junior midfielder Rylee Arnold said. “Also, we are a fairly young team this year, which means there was and is a lot to learn still.”
Junior attacker Olivia MacDonald said the players try to look past the record and the injuries by keeping their heads up.
“We like to keep it positive by always being supportive to one another and just making the most out of it,” MacDonald said. “It’s important to have fun no matter the outcome.”
Arnold added that the team has been able to keep its spirits high.
“The team really looks to one another to keep each other up,” Arnold said. “We are always cheering each other on and looking for positives even in tough times. This season has been a hard one, but the team just keeps working anyways.”
In order to pick up a win this season, players agreed that the team would need to keep the momentum going for the entire game.
“With these next three games approaching, we will just need to put two full halves of good lacrosse together,” MacDonald said. “This means limiting our turnovers and working together to find the back of the net.”
The team has struggled to keep intensity up for a full 60-minute game.
“Coming out strong and aggressive in the first half has been an issue in the past few games,” Arnold said. “The second half of each game seems to be our best, where we are causing more turnovers and having fewer of our own. So, to focus on having that same fire when the game begins could really change the outcome. We have been competitive on the draw for the majority of the season, but there needs to be a focus on utilizing those possessions these last three games.”
The Bonnies look to finish their season with three home games. The team will face George Mason University, Davidson College and the University of Richmond.
Players believe the team feels more comfortable on its home turf and that it could work for their advantage to pick up a win. These games will also give the team a break from the road.
“Traveling can be tiresome and limits our rest time between games,” Arnold said. “Hopefully, this extra time helps us on the field.”
MacDonald added that the team will be playing its last three games for the seniors.
The Bonnies will be saying goodbye to five seniors this year: Kristine Wallace, Gabrielle Bradley, Emily Foster, Morgan Conroy and Kerrigan Cummins.
The seniors will be recognized before the team faces Richmond for its final game on Saturday, April 28 at 11 a.m. at the Marra Athletics Field Complex.
