The Regina A. Quick Center for the Arts will be holding its eighth annual Cutco Family Day on Saturday from noon to 4 p.m. Ludwig Brunner, executive director of the Quick Center, is gearing up for this year’s pirate-themed event.
“It is anticipated that we will have around 200 children and their families in attendance,” said Brunner. “There will be games, art activities and more taking place throughout the center.”
Children can build their own pirate keepsake, compose a secret message or treasure map in a bottle, dress up and pose in the Seven Seas Photo Booth, or visit the Pirate Tattoo Parlor.
There will also be guided tours of the museum.
At 3 p.m., the Rigas Family Theater will host a free performance of “Grace the Pirate,” by Kit’s Interactive Theatre.
“The audience will sail back in time to 1601 and join the crew of Irish pirate Grace O’Malley, a high-seas adventure that includes Irish jigs, folktales, sea chanteys and a run-in with Blackbeard the Pirate,” Brunner said.
Tickets to the performance are free for the entire family and may be obtained at the Quick Center box office that day.
This event continues to cultivate the relationship between the university and the members of the Olean and Allegany communities.
“The eighth annual family day is the perfect opportunity for families to enjoy an afternoon at the QCA, learn about the arts in general, the center’s varied art collections and exhibitions in particular,” Brunner said.
Families who would not normally visit SBU and school children from the local school districts are familiarizing themselves with what the Quick Center has to offer.
“Through the QCA’s strong K-12 programs, we are building relationships for the young students to return many times to the center for school day performances, art activities and gallery tours,” said Brunner. “A strong emphasis is being given to local high school students to assist the admissions office with enrollment efforts. This all starts at an early age at family day to build those relationships with repeated visits.”
Cutco Family Day is sponsored by the Cutco Foundation.
