BROOKLYN- The night cap of the Atlantic 10 quarterfinals was an all-time classic Friday night. The St. Bonaventure Bonnies were sitting right on the bubble coming into the game against Davidson and now they will certainly sweat it out on Sunday when the committee announces the tournament field.

Davidson pulled off a 90-86 comeback win in overtime to defeat the Bonnies. St. Bonaventure got 64 of the 86 points from their two seniors, forward Dion Wright and guard Marcus Posley but in the end it wasn’t enough.

Coming into the game, the Bonnies were 7-1 in games decided by five points or less, but coach Mark Schmidt talked about why his team ended up on the losing end.

“Give them credit, they made plays at the end when they needed to,” Schmidt said. “We had a double digit lead twice but we knew Davidson would fight back. We had our chances, but we just came up short.”

St. Bonaventure is now 22-8 (14-4) on the season and with the early exit in the A10 tournament, the picture remains unclear as to what’s next with this team and if they will make the NCAA tournament, or have to settle for the NIT.

Posley believes that it was the last few minutes of regulation and into overtime where the team let the game slip away.

“We didn’t execute down the stretch like we normally do,” Posley said. “We gave them chances and they took advantage of it.”

Davidson was led by senior guard Jack Gibbs who had 29 points and seven assists on the night. The Wildcats will move on to face the VCU rams in the semi finals at 4 pm on Saturday at the Barclays Center.

As for the Bonnies, they will have to wait until the selection show on Sunday to find out if they will be dancing or if they get left on the outside of the bubble.
