The women’s basketball team was able to pull out a double overtime road win Tuesday night against the Stony Brook Seawolves by a score of 73-68. The Bonnies have now won three straight, improving their record to 4-2 on the season.

The brown and white were led by senior forward Katie Healy who had 26 points on 11 for 20 shooting. Healy also added six rebounds, five assists and three steals, all of which were also team highs.

Fellow senior Nyla Rueter contributed 11 points on 4-for-8 shooting with four rebounds, two assists, three steals and three of the team’s five total three pointers.

Graduate student Emily Michael said getting that first road win was important to this team.

“We were really determined to win on the road,” Michael said. “Having not won on the road yet, we were really hungry for the road win, and we used that to fuel us going into overtime.”

St. Bonaventure shot a healthy 50 percent from the field but were out rebounded by 17 and shot just 40 percent from the free throw line. In addition, the Bonnies committed 16 turnovers, but Michael said she believes the team will remain confident going into their next game.

“I think this game gives us a lot of confidence that we can overcome adversity and play for one another,” Michael said. “We have a great chance against anyone we play, but going forward, we need to stay focused and take it one game at a time.”

Although the Bonnies were ahead for much of the game, they found themselves down three points in the closing seconds. A buzzer-beating three-pointer by sophomore Miranda Drummond tied the ball game up at 54 and sent it to overtime where the Bonnies eventually prevailed.

Drummond finished with 11 points on 5 of 12 shooting with four rebounds. Graduate student Kelcie Rombach commented on how well the team handled the pressure late in the game.

“Last night’s victory was a testament to staying together and playing for one another,” Rombach said. “There were some tough moments in the game where we could have given up, but we stayed together and played even harder.”

Sophomore forward Matea Britvar was impressed with the victory, but understands that the team needs to continue to look forward.

“This win showed us that we can conquer tough situations,” Britvar said. “In order for us to extend this winning streak we all have to stay focused and keep improving by competing and making each other better.”

Coming up next for the brown and white is a home matchup with the Georgetown Hoyas Saturday at the Reilly Center at 1:30 p.m. This will be the first game of a four game home stand for the Bonnies. The other three opponents coming to Olean are James Madison, the State University of New York at Buffalo (UB) and Penn State.
