Two St. Bonaventure students continue to be under investigation Wednesday in an alleged early Sunday morning assault of a woman in a parking lot of a West Main Street bar, said Village of Allegany Chief of Police Dominic Papasergi.

As of Wednesday, the woman had not pressed any charges, said Papasergi.

According to the incident report, around 1:25 a.m. in the lot behind The Other Place, police found a female who told police two St. Bonaventure students had assaulted her.

The unidentified, 22-year-old woman was transported to Olean General Hospital. Doctors treated her for a head injury, bruises and abrasions and released her, said the incident report.

Papasergi said police would not release names as no charges have been filed.

Wednesday articles from the Olean Times Herald and The Buffalo News said the two students are members of the men’s basketball team.

Officials at St. Bonaventure and police said they will not confirm whether or not the two students are members of the basketball team.

Tom Missel, director of marketing and media relations at St. Bonaventure, released an updated statement from the university Thursday, which read:

“We are aware of police reports of an altercation occurring early Sunday morning in Allegany involving St. Bonaventure students, with one female taken to the hospital, where she was treated and released. The Allegany Police investigation remains open.”

“However, as always, St. Bonaventure University reserves the right under the Student Code of Conduct to hold our students responsible for their behavior on and off campus and, at the conclusion of the investigation, will proceed with disciplinary action if it’s warranted. We have initiated that investigation and are in the process of interviewing witnesses and those alleged to have been involved.

“The only thing that’s clear right now is that we do not have nearly enough information at this time to take any action. These comprehensive investigations typically take a great deal of time, effort and resources so people need to understand that the investigation may take several weeks to finalize. We have an obligation to all those involved, from the victim to the accused, to be as thorough as possible and not cut any corners for the sake of being expeditious.”
