St. Bonaventure University and Jamestown Community College (JCC) officials finalized the decision to have Bonaventure house JCC students on its campus for the 2015-2016 academic year.

Bonaventure could make about $205,000 on the agreement from JCC students’ room and board fees, based on the cost of a double room in Doyle Hall for the 2014-2015 academic year.  Trietley said closing a floor saves the university about $35,000.

Richard Trietley, vice president of student affairs, said the second floor of Doyle will house up to 38 JCC students and one Bonaventure student as their resident assistant.

By paying for room and board, JCC students will have access to the Doyle Hall laundry room, housekeeping services, the Doyle lounge, Doyle bathrooms, St. Bonaventure Wi-Fi and access to the Friedsam Memorial Library, Trietley said.

JCC will be responsible for the students’ orientation for living at Bonaventure, Trietley said.  Bonaventure residence life staff will help the students move into second Doyle.

According to Trietley, JCC students will be required to pay $110 a year, just like Bonaventure students, for access to student parking anywhere on campus.

JCC students will have unlimited meal plan options as well as student block meal plans with 100 or 150 meals per semester plus $100 Flex Dollars, Trietley said.  Bonaventure students living in Doyle Hall, Devereux Hall, Robinson Hall, Falconio Hall, Shay Hall and Loughlen Hall are required to purchase an unlimited meal plan.

Trietley said JCC students have the opportunity to purchase 100 or 150 meals, because they will spend the majority of their weekdays at JCC.

JCC students will pay the same per plan as Bonaventure students, according to Trietley.  For the 2015-2016 academic year, the Bona Platinum plan with unlimited access to the Hickey Dining Hall and $300 Flex Dollars per semester will cost $5,872.  The Bona Gold plan with unlimited access to the Hickey and $150 Flex Dollars per semester will cost $5,572.  The Bona Silver plan with unlimited access to the Hickey will cost $5,272.

Aramark raised the cost of St. Bonaventure meal plans about 3 percent for the 2015-2016 academic year.

However, Trietley said JCC students will not have to pay the university fee, which was $965 for the 2014-2015 academic year, because they will not be allowed to join student clubs and organizations.

Trietley also said JCC students will have to pay $220 a year separately from their room and board fees if they want access to the Sandra A. and William L. Richter Center.

JCC students will not have access to Bonaventure’s wireless, online printing either.  Trietley said Bonaventure will most likely install a printer on the second floor of Doyle for them to use.

However, Trietley said JCC students will have the opportunity to attend events on campus, such as the hip-hop shows, if they pay for tickets.  The same applies for Bonaventure basketball games.  JCC students can purchase tickets for each game they would like to attend; they will not sit in the student section.

Trietley also said JCC students should take advantage of classes Bonaventure offers, as they can take one St. Bonaventure class per semester with no additional cost.  St. Bonaventure students are also able to take one JCC class a semester with no additional cost.

“Overall, I think we’ve got a pretty fair model here,” Trietley said.  “It’s a year-to-year contract.  So let’s say we have an enrollment boom next year, we can’t give JCC the rooms in the future.  We won’t be contractually obligated to do so.  I think next year is going to be a great trial, and I’m pretty confident it will work.  We hope some of those students will want to come to Bonaventure as juniors and seniors.”
