All students will be required to live on campus through their senior year beginning in the 2016-2017 academic year.

Currently, the university requires students to reside on campus through their sophomore year.

Andrew Church, a sophomore physics major, said the university is making a practical choice.

“I think this policy change is a wise move on the university’s part, because enrollment has been decreasing,” Church said. “Many universities in the area have similar policies, so it shouldn’t affect potential students’ decision making.”

Other universities requiring a three- or four-year campus residency include Alfred University, Elmira College, Hartwick College, Houghton College, Ithica College, Mount Saint Mary College and Siena College.

In the 2014-2015 academic year, Bonaventure enrollment decreased about three percent from the previous year, officials said.

During the fall 2015 semester, a committee including student representatives will meet to reevaluate the room selection process with the policy change. Students interested in participating can contact Nichole Gonzalez, executive director of residential life and conduct, at ngonzale@sbu.edu

The full housing policy is available at www.sbu.edu/residencelife.
