Retail therapy is the best therapy

Only hot people are reckless with their hard-earned money. As your resident shopaholic and Urban Outfitters gold member, I am here to tell you that it is okay to buy things when you are sad.

I have tried all the suggested remedies: taking a walk (I got lost), meditation (I fell asleep) and crying (I have dry eyes). Okay, I am being a bit facetious, but honestly, none of those things made me feel any better.

I even tried binge-watching my favorite comfort show, “Scooby-Doo,” but to no avail. There is something about watching “The Gruesome Game of the Gator Ghoul” (“The Scooby-Doo Show” season 1, episode 3)  for the tenth time in a week that lets you know you’ve hit rock bottom. So what do you do?

I’ll give you a hint —  it has to do with shopping. This probably started a couple of years ago but it has taken off since I’ve been at Bonas. At first, it was just online shopping (hence the Urban Outfitters gold membership). Receiving a package in the mail gave me enough positive juju to get me through the week. The nice thing about Urban Outfitters, for those who don’t know, is that they ship relatively fast to the middle of nowhere, so it is basically instant gratification.

Unlike Amazon, which even if you have Prime it usually takes a minimum of a week and a half to get to our lovely little middle of nowhere.

But this just in — I have found that if you physically go shopping that is actually instant gratification!

Now, I’m sure you’re thinking, “Meghan, where would a shopaholic like yourself go shopping out here in the boondocks?” That is easy, to the mothership that is Marshalls of course!

For those who don’t know, Marshalls is a chain store with good prices and amazing finds. My one issue with Marshalls is that I feel like I sneeze in there and spend $75.

And I don’t know about you personally, but that is dangerous for my finances.

So yes, retail therapy is the best therapy, but if you’re broke like me, sometimes it’s just nice to browse. I get some of the same good juju from just adding things to my cart whilst online shopping but then never buying it.

I know I tend to be a little silly, but if you get to the point of everyday sadness and your wallet can’t handle it, hit up the Center for Student Wellbeing. Ain’t no shame in the therapy game.
