Bonnies earn second conference win over Duquesne

The St. Bonaventure women’s lacrosse team traveled on the road to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, grabbing their second conference win, 16-15, over Duquesne on Wednesday.

The Dukes (1-8, 0-3 A-10) started the offensive attack early with a goal from sophomore attacker Delaney Rodriguez-Shaw just 30 seconds into the match.

The Bonnies (4-6, 2-1 A-10) took over the rest of the quarter with goals from junior attacker Abby Hiltz, junior midfielder Kassi Hogan, freshman midfielder Brooke Piper and senior midfielder Courtney Fox, giving St. Bonaventure the 4-2 advantage after one quarter.

The Bonnies momentum carried into the second quarter as two more goals from redshirt freshman attacker Jessica Notaro and freshman midfielder Megan Schillinger increased the lead to four.

Duquesne responded with two goals of their own from freshman defense Mia Failla and sophomore midfielder Mackenzie Leszczynsk.

Two more goals for Bonaventure from Piper and freshman attacker Grace Hollenbeck brought the lead back up to four before the Dukes scored three unanswered goals.

Hogan put one in the back of the net as the halftime horn sounded to give the Bonnies a 10-7 at the break.

Duquesne started the third quarter on a 4-1 run, capped off by a goal from Rodriguez-Shaw tying the game up at 11.

St. Bonaventure took the lead off a senior attacker Nora Anderson goal off a pass from Hiltz.

The momentum continued for the Bonnies as a 4-0 run gave St. Bonaventure the 16-11 lead.

Late in the fourth quarter the Dukes attempted a comeback, scoring three goals with the last coming as time expired, but was not enough to overcome the deficit, giving the Bonnies the victory.

Hogan, Notaro and Piper each recorded a hat trick on the contest. This is the first time since last season against Detroit Mercy that this feat was accomplished. It was the first time since 2018 that it was dome in against an Atlantic 10 opponent.

For Bonaventure, sophomore attacker Fiona McGovern, Anderson, Schillinger, Hollenbeck, Fox and Hiltz all found the back of the net while senior attacker Jordan Rokitka, freshman midfielder Brit Colangelo, Piper, Fox, Hiltz and Hollenbeck all assisting.

Defensively for the Bonnies, senior midfielder Caroline Yoder, sophomore defense Brooke Cicoria, Hiltz and Colangelo each had multiple groundballs.

In the net for the Bonnies, senior goalkeeper Ashley Herrick collected 12 saves on the day.

Leading the Dukes, Leszczynsk and Rodriguez-Shaw had six goals with one assist while freshman midfielder Chelsea Evans had two goals.

Redshirt junior goalkeeper Mady Piersielak made 12 saves for the Dukes.

St. Bonaventure returns home on Saturday to take on #16 UMass at the Marra Athletic Complex. The game will start at 1 p.m. and can be seen on ESPN+.
