Grammys and Oscars fashion was a let down

I was severely underwhelmed with the attire sported by the A-Listers the past two Sundays at the Oscars and the Grammys, respectively. So let me break it down for you into the goods, the especially bad and the select few in between. First up on the chopping block is the Oscars, also known as the Academy Awards. It has been revered for 94 years. Say what you want about the controversial firm “Licorice Pizza,” but Alana Haim looked stunning in her floor-length, old-school Louis Vuitton dress. It was simple, but that is what I appreciated most about it. She doesn’t have to make an outrageous statement to be memorable.

Speaking of mildly outrageous, I found Maggie Gyllenhaal in Schiaparelli to be not only an awkward, boxy silhouette. I also thought that the gold hardware on her dress looked like hooks you would hang on a wall. She is a classy lady, but she did not scream class in her wannabe ‘T’ dress. That felt a bit mean, so I will go back to compliments.

Lily James in Atelier Versace is my favorite look of the night. Maybe it was the pink, but she served Disney Princess realness. It was equally sexy and sweet, and I lived for it. My biggest beef of the night was with the host, Amy Schumer. I’m sorry, but bows died after 2015 for me. Probably one of the first Oscar de La Renta’s that missed the mark for me. Also, I sincerely apologize, but when I found out it was custom-made for Amy, I gagged. It just wasn’t a flattering silhouette whatsoever.

Honorable mentions for the gentleman are as follows: Elliot Page in a dapper Gucci tuxedo and, of course, Timothée Chalamet in Louis Vuitton sans shirt. There really were no standouts for me besides them, especially with no Billy Porter to reprise his tuxedo gown.

The Grammys, which have been revered for 63 years, occurred the following Sunday and yielded a relatively similar crowd, but with the musicians at the epicenter this time. I think pink was the token color for me this year because I was obsessed with Saweetie in Valentino. The monochromatic look was stunning with her complexion and very flattering.
Another favorite of mine was Lil Nas X in Balmain. He always steps out, but his pearly, Elvis-esque butterfly fit with matching platforms was showstopping. I normally love everything on Olivia Rodrigo and Doja Cat, but this year Olivia’s costumey Vivienne Westwood gown and Doja’s custom Versace pool cover-up looking custom served meh.

I hate to do it, but I am outlawing sequins. Chloe Bailey in Valentino and Tiffany Haddish in Prada rolled up looking like a couple of oddly-shaped disco balls. Another ensemble on the list is Justin Bieber’s Roblox character cosplay. The only favor his Balenciaga and Saint Laurent fit did was make his wife, Hailey Bieber, look even better in her minimalist gown.
