Buffalo Philharmonics performs at the Quick Center

in FEATURES/Uncategorized by

The Buffalo Philharmonic String Orchestra will be making its first-ever appearance to the St. Bonaventure Regina A. Quick Center for the Arts’ stage.
The Buffalo Philharmonic is a long-standing orchestra known for its song performances and conductor, Glen Cortese, who has previously been at St. Bonaventure previous season. It will be performing multiple songs.
“The BPO is the leading symphony orchestra of Western New York and through its many recordings and radio broadcasts on NPR is known nationwide,” said Ludwig Brunner, executive director of the Quick Center. “This concert features the string sections of the BPO with guest conductor Glen Cortese performing works known as the romantic classics, like Mendelssohn’s String Symphony No. 5 and the Fantasia on a Theme of Thomas Tallis by Ralph Vaughn Williams.”
For those still unsure if they should attend, the Quick Center also offers public museums to view before or after the performance. If you have viewed these exhibits before, you can still speak to other audience members and meet new people with similar interests.
“I think it is a great time to relax and enjoy good music together with friends in the intimate theater of the Quick Center,” said Brunner.
The Buffalo Philharmonic is only the beginning of the season. Naturally, there will be many more artists visiting the campus with different genres and musical talents.
“Newcomers to the concert series can expect nine performances of varied musical genres,” said Brunner. “From classical music like the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra will present this Sunday to the sound of gypsy music by the popular band Slavic Soul Party.”
Supporting the Friends of Good Music is worthy of your time spent here as well. The non-profit organization, which has been bringing music to our region for almost 40 years now, has been working alongside the Quick Center for 15 years now to create a local location for those on campus in Olean to go to enjoy the performances.
Ticket prices are reduced for students and St. Bonaventure employees.
“We offer student tickets for the price of $5 if bought in advance and at the Student Rush Hour, which is one hour before the start of each performance,” said Brunner. “Students will receive a free ticket on a first come, first served basis and providing there are unsold tickets left.”
Other than students, tickets are $20 at full price and $16 for St. Bonaventure employees. Season subscriptions are available on the Friends of Good Music website.
Other concerts being performed at the Quick Center during this season can be found on sbu.edu in its ‘News’ section.
