Ways to celebrate this Valentine’s Day

in FEATURES by

Valentine’s Day is assumed to only celebrate romantic love. Why can’t it be about self-love, too? Make your Valentine’s Day about spoiling your wonderful self.
An awesome way to love yourself is to take a day for relaxation. For some, there is nothing more relaxing than putting on a rejuvenating face mask and getting your nails done. Why not head to a nearby spa and do just that? Everyone needs pampering; get yours this V-Day!
Another thing to do is to spend the day inside. If you’re a bookworm, lie back and spend the day in the pages of your favorite story. If you’ve got a show to catch up on, binge-watch it. Or if you are one of the many students that need to catch up on sleep, get cozy and catch those Z’s.
A fun idea for Galentine’s Day is rounding up your closest companions and doing fun activities. A few nifty ideas are baking your favorite cookies. Grab your ingredients and your favorite recipe, and make cookies to your heart’s content. Another thing to do might be scrapbooking. A fun photo album will let you keep reliving the adventures you and your gal-pals have shared over the years.
For those of us that are in relationships, but have no clue what to do this romantic holiday, there are a few ideas for every couple.
Some couples are ‘adrenaline junkies’ and want an exciting Valentine’s Day. There are plenty of places to go skiing, hiking or snowboarding in this snowy state such as Allegany State Park or Holiday Valley Resort. It’s a perfect way to spend time together and get your hearts pumping. Take your lover out for a thrilling date this Thursday.
For the more laid-back, why not cuddle up with a movie? This classic date-night has stuck around for a reason. There’s no better way to relax with your partner than falling in love with romcom; “Hitch” and “50 First Dates” are a couple classics. Or a blood-pumping horror flick, such as “Don’t Breathe” or “Bird Box.” Whatever you and your lover’s taste is, it’s sure to be a fun date-night.
Another laid-back fun idea is playing indoor games. Super Smash Bros is a trendy multiplayer game you and your partner are sure to get sucked into. A few other game ideas are Texas Hold ‘Em or Monopoly. Nothing beats a classic game night!
No one will debate that the most romantic, and maybe cliché, Valentine’s date idea is a candle-lit dinner. There are plenty of cozy eateries around town, so why not go out? Mangia’s is a local Italian hotspot and a great place for a date. Another suggestion would be Sprague’s, a rustic maple farm that doubles as a restaurant. It’s an excellent way to just talk to your partner and enjoy each other’s company. Not to mention, it is totally cheesy, and that’s why it’s the best way to spend this holiday together.
If you’re not up to going out, maybe cook together! It’s a great way to bond and have food tailored to your taste. Spaghetti is a classic dish that’s simple to make. Who could forget macaroni and cheese? It’s a comfort food that few can refuse. Whatever you and your lover love is sure to make your Valentine’s Day one to remember.
