A step into the Regina A. Quick Center for the Arts on Wednesday night would offer a first-hand demonstration of the talent present at St. Bonaventure.

Bonacoustics held its first performance of the year on Wednesday. The group performed nine songs, which included duets and group numbers. The grand finale song, “Rolling in the Deep,” was performed by the entire group, and was led by Stephanie Kennedy and Hannah Vail. The song seemed to be the audience’s favorite.

“The final song “Rolling in the Deep” was definitely my favorite,” Gabrielle Hurley, a sophomore finance major, said.  It was nice to see them all come together at the end and pull off singing such a difficult song.

It takes great leaders to be able to put together such a great show. Co-Presidents Conor Hynes, a sophomore music major and Stephanie Kennedy, a sophomore strategic communication major, worked together to ensure that the first show would be a success.

“Stephanie and I argue like a married couple sometimes, but when it comes down to it, we get everything done,” Hynes said. “We work with the group outside of practice which also helps.”

Kennedy agreed with Hynes and added that the two work well together. Despite disagreements along the way, they were able to compromise for the good of the group.

“I’m so excited with the way everything turned out. We’ve been practicing a lot for this show,” Kennedy said.

Hynes, Kennedy and all the students in Bonacoustics were able to organize a successful show, but both Hynes and Kennedy admit that they could not have done it alone.

“Laura Peterson has been our greatest asset this year,” Hynes said.

Peterson is one of the professors in the music department who helped members of the group with their parts.

“She’s always there helping us. “It’s like she’s God sent and she is just a wonderful human being.”

It was evident that the members of the show had fun with the parts they performed, and worked hard to prepare for it.

“This was our first show so it was nerve wracking, but it came together nicely,” Ellen Piper, a sophomore theology major, said.

If you were unable to catch the voices of Bonacoustics, there’s still a chance to see them live. Members of Bonacoustics will be in the upcoming Christmas show later this month.

“We’re planning on having a Christmas show with all Christmas music. I’m really excited for this because I love Christmas music so much,” Piper said.

Kennedy added that Bonacoustics is always looking for new members, and it’s not too late to join. The group is hoping to recruit a few male singers before its next show. Those interested in joining can email Kennedy.

“It’s a fun and diverse group and I like everyone in it” Piper said. “Anyone who’s interested in singing can be a part of Bonacoustics.”
