Editor-in-Chief

Hello readers,

I have the honor of welcoming you all to a new year at St. Bonaventure University. I’m excited to be a part of a long list of Editors-in-Chief who have been at the reins of The Bona Venture.

This year will be different from years past. This past summer, all campus clubs endured severe budget cuts stemming from the decreasing enrollment at the university.

As a result, The Bona Venture will be transitioning to a biweekly newspaper, with an online-only issue when we don’t print. We made the decision for a number of reasons, mainly financial. The printing contract with the Olean Times Herald to publish on a weekly basis would have been nearly double our allocation. Also, inadequate time to fundraise properly and deadlines to sign a contract before the beginning of the year left becoming a bi-weekly the only viable choice.

Our contract with the OTH is only for one semester. During our mid-semester break in December, we will re-examine our finances and see if we can increase publication for the Spring 2015 semester.

In addition, the newsroom also relocated to its former home in the Reilly Center to make room for the renovation to Archbishop Robinson Hall. We now operate from RC 5. It’s a change that has presented a few bumps in the road, but one we welcome.

Aside from those issues, the staff is excited to start another year inside fresh Bona Venture walls. For many, it’s their first semester at a newspaper and we couldn’t be more thrilled to have them in our newsroom.

To our loyal readers both on and off campus,  I hope you will stick with us through the transition. It’s a new experience for me, but with the help of my staff, managing editor Harrison Leone and faculty advisor Carole McNall , we will adjust seamlessly.

I hope your year will be as exciting as mine is shaping up to be.
