Bonaventure Falls to Middle Tennessee in WNIT Second Round

The St. Bonaventure women’s basketball team saw its season come to an end in a 69-50 defeat to Middle Tennessee State University in the second round of the Women’s National Invitational Tournament Monday at the Murphy Center. 

   Middle Tennessee (17-15, 11-7 C-USA) opened the game scoring the first 11 points. Bonaventure (17-16, 7-11 A-10) responded in the second quarter with an 8-0 run to tie the game at 20 with 6:19 left, but the Blue Raiders closed out the half with a 19-7 run. 

   Middle Tennessee extended its lead to as many as 15 points, and Bonaventure could not regain the lead. 

   Freshman guard Blair Baugus led the Blue Raiders with 20 points and 14 rebounds. 

   Graduate guard Laycee Drake led the Bonnies with 14 points, six rebounds, three assists and two steals. 

  Bonaventure finished the season with its best record in a decade. 

  Middle Tennessee head coach Rick Insell, the winningest coach in program history, continues his farewell season. Insell announced on Thursday he will retire at the conclusion of the season. 

   The Blue Raiders advance to the Super 16 round of the WNIT. They host Cleveland State University on Thursday, March 26 at 7:30 p.m.
