Preview: Bonaventure Faces Middle Tennessee in WNIT Second Round

The St. Bonaventure University women’s basketball team travels to face Middle Tennessee State University in the second round of the Women’s National Invitation Tournament on Monday in the Murphy Center. 

   Middle Tennessee head coach Rick Insell, the winningest coach in program history, announced on Thursday he will retire at the conclusion of the 2025-26 season. 

   Following a 69-67 first-round win over Drexel University, the Bonnies (17-15, 7-11 A-10) have won five of their last nine games. They continue their first postseason run since the 2015-16 season. 

   Bonaventure finished the season sixth in the Atlantic 10 in field goal percentage and fourth in opponent field goal percentage. It shot 41.7% from the field and heldopponents to 39%. 

   Graduate guard Laycee Drake leads the Bonnies with 15.5 points and 6.3 rebounds per game. 

   The Blue Raiders (16-15, 11-7 CUSA) finished second in Conference USA. They lost four out of their last six games, including a 69-66 loss to Missouri StateUniversity in the CUSA tournament quarterfinals. 

   Senior guard Alayna Contreras leads the Blue Raiders in scoring, averaging 14.5 points per game. Freshman guard Blair Baugus averages 13.2 points and a team-high 9.2 rebounds per game. 

  The game will tip off at 6:30 p.m. and will air on ESPN+.
