Bonaventure Advances to WNIT Second Round with Overtime Win over Drexel

   The St. Bonaventure University women’s basketball team defeated Drexel University 69-67 in overtime to advance to the second round of the Women’s National Invitational Tournament on Thursday at the Reilly Center. 

   The Dragons (21-11, 13-5 CAA) led 59-49 with 5:02 left in regulation, but the Bonnies (17-15, 7-11 A-10) answered with a 10-0 run to send the game to overtime. 

   Drexel took a 62-59 lead open overtime before the Bonnies responded with a jumper from graduate guard Aaliyah Parker and a three from freshman guard Elyse MacDonough to take the lead by two with 2:19 left. 

   A layup by Drexel junior guard Laine McGurk and another 3-pointer from MacDonough gave the Bonnies a three-point lead with 29 seconds left. 

   McGurk hit a 3-pointer with 13 seconds left to tie the game at 67, but Aaliyah Parker answered with a go-ahead layup with nine seconds left to lift the Bonnies to the opening round win. 

   Graduate guard Laycee Drake led the Bonnies 24 points, eight rebounds, three assists and two blocks. 

   McGurk led the Dragons with 20 points, three rebounds and two steals. 

  Middle Tennessee University (16-15, 11-7 C-USA) hosts Bonaventure in the second round of the WNIT on Monday, March 22. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
