Spiders Dominate Second Half, Knock Off Bonnies Women’s Basketball

   Half a game behind 10th place in the Atlantic 10 standings, the St. Bonaventure women’s basketball team fell 75-52 at the University of Richmond Wednesday night. 

   Teams that finish between the No. 5 and No. 10 seeds automatically advance to the second round of the A-10 tournament, which begins March 4. 

  The Bonnies (14-12, 5-9 A-10) closed the final four minutes of the first half on a 9-3 run to take a 32-30 lead into halftime. The crowd at the Robins Center grew anxious. 

   The Spiders (21-4, 11-1 A-10) finished the third quarter with a commanding 8-0 run to take a 48-39 lead. Bonaventure junior forward Brillana Boyd scored five of the team’s seven points in the third quarter. 

   Richmond extended its run to 18-0 during the fourth quarter, leaving Bonaventure scoreless for 6:37. It outscored Bonaventure 45-20 in the second half. 

    Three assists shy of a triple-double, Richmond senior forward Maggie Doogan scored 23 points, 11 rebounds and seven assists. Senior guard Rachel Ullstrom chipped in with 21 points and five rebounds. 

   Boyd led the Bonnies with 13 points and eight rebounds. 

   Bonaventure visits Virginia Commonwealth University for its fourth to last game of the season (8-17, 4-9 A-10) Saturday, Feb. 14, at 1 p.m. in the Siegel Center. The game will air on ESPN+ and the Bonnies Online Network.
