Drake’s Go-Ahead Jumper Lifts Bonnies Past Dukes in Overtime Thriller

  The St. Bonaventure women’s basketball team earned its second straight victory with a 72-71 overtime win over Duquesne on Saturday. 

  The Bonnies (14-11, 5-8 A-10) opened the game with a 12-3 run and held a 12-8 lead at the end of the quarter. 

   The Dukes (7-16, 0-12 A-10) answered with a 16-3 run and led 30-25 at halftime. 

   Redshirt freshman guard Brianna Barr-Buday took over in the third quarter for the Bonnies, scoring 10 of the team’s 19 points. Bonaventure trailed 47-44 at the end of the quarter. 

   The Dukes led 61-56 with 51 seconds left in regulation. A jumper from graduate guard Aaliyah Parker and an and-one from junior forward Kylie Buckley tied the game at 61 to force overtime. 

   The Bonnies led 68-66 with 37 seconds left in overtime before sophomore guard Mackenzie Blackford hit a 3-pointer to put the Dukes ahead. Blackford’s steal and fast-break layup on the next possession gave the Dukes a 71-68 lead with 20 seconds left. 

   Graduate guard Laycee Drake responded with a jumper to put the Bonnies back within one. 

   The Dukes committed a backcourt violation on the next possession, giving Bonaventure the ball with 17 seconds remaining. 

   Drake’s go-ahead jumper with four seconds left sealed the win for the Bonnies. 

    Blackford led the Dukes with 27 points. Freshman guard Alexis Bordas chipped in with 25 points and sophomore forward Harriet Ford recorded 14 rebounds. 

     Barr-Buday led the Bonnies with 15 points. Drake, Parker and Buckley each scored 13 points. 

   Bonaventure travels to face Richmond (20-4, 10-1 A-10) in its next contest, Wednesday, Feb. 11, at 6 p.m. in the Robins Center. The game will air on ESPN+ and the Bonnies Online Network.
