Rhode Island Rolls Past Bonnies Women’s Basketball

   The St. Bonaventure University women’s basketball team dropped third conference game of the season, 66-45, to the University of Rhode Island Saturday at the Thomas M. Ryan Center. 

   Both teams traded baskets over a tightly-contested first half. Rhode Island (14-2, 5-0 A-10) led 22-21 at halftime. 

   The Rams pulled away late in the third quarter and never relinquished the lead. They held a 40-31 lead at the end of the third quarter and led by as many as 24 points in the fourth quarter. 

   Junior guard Sophia Vital led the Rams with 14 points, six rebounds, four assists and three steals. Senior forward Palmire Mbu chipped in with 12 points, eight rebounds and three blocks. 

   Graduate guard Laycee Drake led the Bonnies (11-6, 2-3 A-10) with 12 points, seven rebounds and three assists. 

   Bonaventure hosts Saint Joseph’s University Wednesday, Jan. 14, at 6 p.m. at the Reilly Center. The game will air on ESPN+ and the Bonnies Online Network.
