Spring 2026 registration began on Oct. 31, leaving many Bonaventure students in a panic over class sizes and the limited number of sections for required courses. Some essential courses fill up before registration even begins, while others are only offered in certain semesters or even years, making the process increasingly frustrating.

Many students on campus have expressed concern regarding the influx of students with no expansion of class sizes.

“They make each incoming class size bigger and don’t expand the sections or add seats to classes that we need to graduate,” said Brigid O’Dwyer, a sophomore broadcast journalism major.

The class of 2028 was the largest freshman class in over 35 years, and the class of 2029 has surpassed it slightly. There are not enough seats or even courses available to accompany students.

Nellie Kopta, a junior public health major, is required to take a health care ethics class that is only offered in the spring. However, there were not enough seats available and only one section available at this time. Kopta said, “I need this class to graduate in December 2026, so it won’t be offered again before I leave, it is required for my major.”

Many students on campus are having trouble getting into required courses for their respective majors. How are students supposed to graduate on time or keep up with their required courses if they can’t take them?

“There were not enough classes offered in the spring, they are only offered in the fall,” said Nate Kyser, a sophomore sports management major.

This seems to be a reoccurring problem for students. With not many classes available in the spring, it forces students to take elective courses that aren’t necessarily needed and makes them wait for either an opening in the course or take it during a completely different semester.

According to a Yik Yak poll, 46 students voted that they were able to register for some of their classes, and 41 voted that they don’t even feel like they are in their respective majors anymore. Surprisingly, 132 students voted that they registered for all of their classes.

While some are thriving through the registration process, others are struggling to find courses that fit with their majors. Whether the outcome of the registration process is good or bad, more sections of classes are definitely needed to make the process less stressful and easier for students.
