Bonnies Cruise to Exhibition Win Over Alfred

   The St. Bonaventure University men’s basketball team took down Division III Alfred University Wednesday in its season-opening exhibition game 101-40.

   The Saxons jumped out to a quick 11-5 advantage three minutes into the first half, before the Bonnies began a scoring barrage led by junior guard Darryl Simmons II, who had 16 first half points. 

   The Bonnies ended the half on a 20-8 run and held a 48-24 lead going into the halftime break. 

   Bonaventure opened the second half on a 31-9 scoring run and never looked back, holding the Saxons to just 16 points over the course of the second half. 

   Simmons led the Bonnies with 24 points, shooting 9 for 13 from the field and 6 for 10 from beyond the arc. Senior guard Cayden Charles added 21 points, ten rebounds, and six assists in 26 minutes of work.

   Five Bonnies scored in double-figures, with senior forwards Frank Mitchell and Daniel Egbuniwe and freshman forward Andrew Osasuyi adding ten points each. Osasuyi also tallied nine rebounds, five of which were offensive. All 11 Bonnies who saw game action scored.

   Senior guard Tyler Hind led Alfred with 10 points, shooting 3 for 6 from the floor, all of which were threes. Senior forward Franlys Valenzuela added eight points and three rebounds and junior guard Zion Baitey posted five points and four rebounds.

   The Bonnies return to action with their regular season opener on Monday, Nov. 3 at 11 a.m. against Bradley University in the Field of 68 Opening Day Marathon in Rock Hill, S.C. The game will be streamed live on YouTube and X and will be broadcast live on the Bonnies Online Network.
