The St. Bonaventure women’s soccer team fell to conference rivals George Washington (4-6-3, 1-4 A-10) in a 3-2 home loss this past Sunday afternoon. This loss continued the Bonnies’ (3-8-2, 0-5-0 A-10) winless start to conference play this year.

Bonnies graduate defender, Paula Sanabria Diaz, opened the contest’s scoring with a free kick goal 5 minutes into the affair. This was her second goal of the year, both being free kicks.

The Bonnies’ lead didn’t last long, however. George Washington sophomore defender Julia Bilal tied the game up in the 18th minute with a corner kick goal assisted by graduate midfielder Elizabeth Cruz. The Revolutionaries continued the barrage with another goal four minutes later, this one scored by Cruz and assisted by graduate defender Amelia Booth.

Bonaventure’s sophomore goalkeeper, Adelaide Paredes, was pressured throughout the match. She made four saves to keep the game close, but eventually she conceded the third goal of the match to freshman forward Naomi Kim of the Revolutionaries.

Even with the lead being brought to two, the Bonnies showed no quit.  The players fought hard all the way to the end, and eventually in the 84th minute the energy translated into the team’s second goal of the game. Senior defender Hannah Walker scored her second goal of the season on an impressive run, assisted by graduate midfielder Giovanna Coghetto.

Unfortunately, that was the last major chance the Bonnies had as the Revolutionaries were able to run out the clock to complete the 3-2 victory.

The Bonnies’ next contest will be in New York City against Fordham on Sunday, Oct. 12 at 1:00 p.m. The game will be streamed live on ESPN+.
