“Bueller at Bonaventure,” a student-led dance production, makes its Regina A. Quick Center for the Arts debut on Tuesday, Nov. 15, at 7:30 p.m. Featuring styles such as jazz, lyrical, and hip hop, the St. Bonaventure University Dance Team will be performing small acting scenes and nine different dances, all following the plot of “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.” They have worked hard to choreograph their own dances and create their own script.

“We are able to put in modern references and homages to the Bonaventure area that allows us to add humor and engage with the audience,” manager and sophomore Strategic Communications major Ellie Foley noted. “You might hear references to Hickey Dining Hall and Cuba Cheese.”

Dance team practices its classes in the Butler Gym basement three days a week, with Sunday practice being their group rehearsal.

“Each practice is different. But, typically our classes last an hour. We cater our classes to the people in them to ensure everyone enjoys themselves,” Grace Foley, senior strategic communication major and co-captain of the team noted.

The 32 members of the team feel extremely close and highly value relationships with each other.

Co-captain and senior marketing major Faith Gworek comments, “SBU Dance Team has taught me the importance of relationships. I’ve connected with so many people I wouldn’t have met without the team. I’m constantly learning from all my teammates and it has me appreciating in-person conversation in our online world.”

From trips to Mt. Irenaeus to team dinners, dance team morale and spirit is a key value they want to exude.

Their strong affinity for each other has made this show so important to them.

“It would mean the world to the team and me to see the audience filled with our family and peers, Grace Foley remarks. “The team has worked extremely hard to put on an outstanding, unique performance for all. I am so proud of this team and can’t wait to see the final look on stage.”

The Dance Team is always welcoming new members for upcoming semesters.

“You don’t have to be a professional dancer to be on the team,” Gworek comments. Most of the team are just people who want to move their bodies and listen to some good music. We hope we can fill Butler Basement with great people and provide a great time!”
