The undergraduate final examination schedule will begin on Saturday, May 7 and end on Wednesday, May 11.

George Swindoll, university registrar, said that this schedule has occurred in the past.

“I build the schedule based on what was done the following year and ensuring that the right amount of contact hours are met,” said Swindoll. “I’ve looked back every year to 2008, and all have a Saturday exam schedule.”

Some students have said that they have never had this type of schedule before.

Erica Marshall, sophomore public health major, said that she does not mind getting her final over with earlier than she would have.  But, she also said that Saturdays are her rest days and even though it is the end of the semester, it will not be good for her mental state.

“I feel, in a sense, that I am happy because it is one of the first final slots,” said Marshall. “At the same time, it is different than a typical Saturday for a student. I am worried that my brain is going to go into shock when I have to take a huge test.”

Griffin Sciortino, sophomore finance and accounting double major, said that he had the same bittersweet feeling as Marshall.

“Honestly, it’s kind of annoying to have to take this exam on a Saturday. But, it is going to be nice getting it out of the way,” said Sciortinio.

Marshall and Sciortino said that they have other slots in this finals schedule that are just for projects.

Some, like Julia Maslanka, a sophomore psychology major, said that they do not have an exam but instead they must turn in their final projects at some time on Saturday.

Maslanka said that she has to turn in her final paper by 1:10 p.m., and then there will be a 30 minute discussion about the class.

“There is no need to go in, in the middle of the weekend, to hand in a paper that I have been working on for weeks,” said Maslanka. “Having a final on Saturday messes up the schedule in your brain. Usually you have three reading days in a row, the weekend and that Monday, or even Friday and the weekend, but now if you have an exam on Saturday you only have one day to prepare.”

Faith Pingie, sophomore education major, said that she felt annoyed when she found out about this timing.

“I was mad that my final was on a Saturday just because I wanted to have the weekend to study but I guess it is better to get it over with,” said Pingie. “I just think it is not a good idea for an exam on a Saturday just because my brain is in weekend mode by then not exam taking mode if that makes sense.”

Pingie finally said, “I am happy to be able to get it over with but being on a Saturday is stressful.”
