Rainy-day fashion can still be stylish

Spring has finally sprung. While the weather is warming up, the rain is in full force. But as the saying goes, “April showers bring May flowers.” Keeping that in mind, be mindful about what to wear when out and about.
Spring outfits can be fun because of the bright colors and different trends that are available. When the weather is abysmal outside, it tends to put people in a foggy mood. However, throwing on something fun and bright will keep you happy. Remember: look good, feel good.
A trend that has hit the stores are the vinyl rain jackets. They are very sheer, but come in bright colors and funky patterns. This could be the perfect piece to throw over a simple look. Vinyl rain jackets are a different twist to your average waterproof coat.
Another trend we have seen all over is neons. Sunshine yellow, lime green, hot pink and bright orange are the colors of the seasons. Keeping these colors in mind while shopping for rain gear will help tostand out. The good think about neons are they can be worn as a jacket or shoes.
When looking to invest in a classic rain jacket that will last more than a couple seasons, check out stores like The North Face, Columbia, L.L. Bean and Dick’s Sporting Goods. It is good to have a classic rain jacket that will go with everything in one’s closet. If you want to keep up with the Bonaventure school spirit, the campus bookstore has a couple rain jacket options as well.
As for rain boots and waterproof shoes, it is good to have the right pair of rain boots that are going to be comfy and reliable. College students basically have to walk everywhere, whether it is to class, the store or across the street to Dunkin Donuts, so making sure you have the proper waterproof footwear is a must. Brands like Hunter, Sam Edelman, Jack Rogers and Joules have a variety of colors, styles and prices.
Different outfit ideas can be very versatile. For example, people want to be comfy walking to class or running errands. Your favorite sweatshirt or t-shirt layered under your rain jacket paired with leggings or jeans is simple and easy. Lastly, throw on a pair of tall rain boots or ankle rain boots and you are good to go.
Rain gear doesn’t have to be ugly and trash bag like. We all have been there during an outing when it starts to rain and your dad pulls out the infamous trash bag poncho looking thing. Rain can be fun if you have the right stuff.
