How to properly layer clothes

in FEATURES by

The cold weather is making its way, so be sure to be ready with the latest trends this season. Some trends to try out if you haven’t already are layering, eccentric colors, floral patterns and all-over prints. Large statement shoulders from the eighties are also back.
Oversized padded shoulders in shirts, sweaters, dresses and coats create a perfect bold look to match this season’s trends. This was seen a lot in the ‘80s, and now it’s back. This style is seen a lot in western fashion trends that are continuing from the summer into the winter fashion season. Padded shoulder looks great for coats, specifically chesterfield-style coats. Chesterfield coats are very popular right now.
You want to be careful when it comes to layering and make sure you are doing it properly. Fabrics matter; some textures don’t match but look well together, while other textures are not meant to be worn together.
The number one rule when it comes to layering is to not start with a cotton base. If you start to get hot in class or throughout the day and need to remove some layers, you don’t want to be left with a cotton base that is soiled. Another rule is to never wear an outer layer that is half the size of the layer underneath. Sometimes this can be done well, but for the most part, it comes out tacky. Long, oversized shirts look great with a long, oversized jean jacket. They even look good when your shirt hangs longer than the jacket. If you try to wear a large shirt with a tight, short jacket, it won’t look as effortless and comes off tacky. Be sure to plan your layering accordingly.
Layering will be very fun this season, especially with all the colors and patterns that are in style. Neon-bright colors are trending and make layering a lot of fun. Try wearing a midi to ankle length dress with an oversized hoodie or crew neck over it, and finish it off with a colorful puffer-coat. This may seem odd at first, but once you rock it with some midi socks and chunky sneakers, you’ll feel as if you are walking the runways during fashion week.
Color is everything and can be all you need to finish off an outfit. Black is still all that, but a dash of neon green or a floral-patterned shirt or coat can be everything you need this winter. The goal this season is to stand out with vibrant colors and bold patterns, and this can be accomplished best through the winter coat you choose to sport this season. Padded jackets that are designed with quilted volume have been worn for many years now, but this year it is time to increase volume. When it comes to your winter jacket, the bigger the better. Make a statement with a large coat, and you won’t be missed.
