The St. Bonaventure University softball team dropped both games of a doubleheader against the Bowling Green Falcons, losing the first game 8-3 and the second 5-4.

The Bonnies (1-3) were out-hit by the Falcons (6-2) between the two games 22-9, with the Falcons splitting their hits 11 per game.

In game one, both teams remained scoreless through the first two innings, but the Falcons soon jump started their offense, out-scoring the Bonnies 8-2 from the third to the fifth inning. During the flurry of runs, redshirt junior first baseman Chelsea Raker drove in two runs on a pair of singles.

The Falcons were also helped by freshman right fielder Kendyl Wheeler during the eight-run rush of offense. Wheeler finished the game two-for-three with a triple, two runs batted in and two runs scored.

But, the Bonnies were able to load the bases in the sixth, bringing sophomore third baseman Kaitlin Caringi to the plate. Caringi then hit the ball back to the pitcher, but the pitcher committed an error, allowing her to reach first and a run to score.

However, the Bonnies would get no closer to the lead, as the Falcons worked out of the jam and went on to win the game.

Freshman Rylee Hehir got the start on the mound for the Bonnies, going four innings, giving up six runs (two unearned) on nine hits and three walks with three strikeouts.

Though sophomore Brooke Parker started for the Falcons, fellow sophomore Kiley Sosby tossed a majority of the game, pitching five innings while surrendering three runs (only one earned) on four hits and three walks, striking out eight batters.

In game two, the Falcons took an early lead, going up 5-0 by the end of the third inning. The bulk of the scoring was done in the third, when the Falcons scored four runs. Raker provided three of those runs with a bases-clearing double to right field after the Falcons loaded the bases with one out.

Raker then came in to score on a single by junior designated player Laine Simmons.

But, the Bonnies began to mount a comeback in the top of the sixth after loading the bases. Freshman Emma Borysevicz pinch hit and was able to plate a run on an error by the shortstop, leaving the game following reaching first in favor of a pinch runner, sophomore Nicole Antonacci.

After another out was recorded, and runners therefore occupied the corners with two out,  sophomore first baseman Alexandra Piergustavo stepped the plate and knocked home two more runs with a double to centerfield.

But the comeback attempt would again fall short and the Falcons would sweep the Bonnies.
