The America Marketing Association (AMA) unleashed its second Ugly Sweater Christmas party on Friday, Dec. 4, keeping fun at an all-time high and conventional fashion at a low.

“We saw an even better turn out this year,” said Laura Meyers, a graduate assistant and co-president of AMA. “We raised nearly $1500 with a $3 cover charge at the door. During the three hours there were almost 500 people who came. I’m not sure how much we profited [due to decorations and prizes] but there weren’t too (many) expenses. We get to keep pretty much everything we earn.”

The AMA began hosting ugly sweater parties starting last year, though this is just one of its many fundraisers. With nearly 60 students in the club, it will take more than ugly sweaters to keep the plan stitched together. Booths at Bonagany, selling apparel and other socials in the Rathskeller are some of the other activities that help bring these students closer to their end goal.

The purpose behind these activities is to give marketing practice to the members of the club, but also to bring Bonaventure’s AMA chapter to thriving cities in search of real business experience. Networking with alumni associates, the AMA plans to visit Boston this year with the funds raised throughout the school year.

“To just be able to throw on an ugly sweater is kind of nice,” Meyers said. “Everyone went all out. There was someone dressed as a chimney; someone else was dressed as an actual Christmas tree. It was just nice to see people participating.”
