Halloween is right around the corner and students said they are excited to dress up and have fun with friends, while others are busy putting together on-campus events.
To kick off the Halloween festivities, the Buzz is hosting WSBU-FM, 88.3 The Buzz Fall Field Day, where they will have music, cider and donuts, T-shirts, lawn games and more. The event will take place on the Hickey Dining Hall lawn from 3-5 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 30.
On Saturday, Oct. 31 Embrace it Africa will host The Hunger Walk to benefit local hunger organizations and Bethlehem’s Parents School and Orphanage in Uganda. Participants can come dressed in Halloween costumes and run or walk the Allegheny River Valley Trail.
“With this year’s Hunger Walk, we’re really hoping for a great turnout,” LaurieAnne Wickens, a junior marketing major and club member said. “We’ve changed things up a bit by holding the event on Halloween and making it costume walk.”
Amanda Saeli, a junior marketing major and club president said that this event supports a cause that’s more pressing than many people realize.
“I’ve been to the school and orphanage that the proceeds will go to twice now,” said Saeli. “It’s a burden on young children when it shouldn’t be, and it’s what motivates all of us to raise money to help them.”
Enactus and Bona Buddies are hosting a haunted house on Saturday, Oct. 31 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Francis Hall basement.
Some students, however, said they like to spend the night with friends and dress up in costumes.
“My roommates and I are having a party for Halloween,” said Emily Jo Manchester, a senior women’s studies major. “In preparation, one of my roommates decorated the entire house. She spent $40 on garland alone. It’s awesome looking.”
Students said they’re looking forward to all the events, costumes and candy, all before the end of fall and the beginning of the winter months.
