The St. Bonaventure University community has a new Student Government Association (SGA) lineup.

SGA is a group of students elected by their peers who work together in order to better the campus. Each member is involved with the decision making process.

The mix of students for this upcoming fall semester consist of both newcomers and veterans to the student government.

The executive board is comprised of President Rose Brown, Vice President Patricia Gould, Secretary Jessica Laursen and Treasurer James W. Cook.

Haylei John, a freshman international studies and Spanish major, said she is excited for the opportunities her sophomore year will hold. John is serving as vice president for the class of 2018.

John said she intends to use her position to improve the school in whatever way she can.

“My major goal is to work to build a strong foundation for the future of the class of 2018. In order to do so, we’ll have to plan and carry out successful fundraisers,” John said. “I’d also like to see us become more involved in community service projects and to make our mark on campus.”

According to Hannah Schaefer, a freshman international studies major, every member of SGA is put onto a committee with a specific task. Therefore, after the committees complete their tasks, they come together to complete the overall goal. Hannah will serve as president of the class of 2018 next semester.

“My goal is to represent our class to the best of my ability. I really hope to take the needs of our class and school and put in the work to make a change,” Schaefer said.

Shaefer said she hopes to be a good listener in order to make changes on this campus.

Michael Padlo will serve as senior class treasurer for the upcoming semester. This will be Padlo’s third year with the SGA.

Padlo, a junior management major, said his duties as treasurer include working with Abby Cohen, associate director for intramurals, club sports and student engagement, to ensure an organized class budget and profitable fundraisers.

“My goals for next year include working closely with our new class president and VP to create new fundraising ideas. The past several years, we’ve sold shirts very successfully, and next year, the other class officers and I have talked about fresh ideas for fundraisers,” Padlo said. “I think what I’m personally most excited for is working with the class and other class officers in planning for our senior class gift.”

Schaefer said she is excited to meet and work with the new SGA members.

“Being a year conditioned into SGA, I know the responsibilities and duties making me ready to leap into this new school year,” Schaefer said.
