The St. Bonaventure softball team had a pair of double header match-ups on Feb. 28 and March 1 in Myrtle Beach, SC.

The Bonnies started the weekend with an extra-inning victory over Charlotte followed by losing 8-5 against Robert Morris. Sunday consisted of the Bonnies losing both games to Kent State by scores of 1-0 and 18-4.

“Our freshman pitcher Josie Borysevicz pitched really well, but we just came out on the short end,” Coach Mike Threehouse said. “With the second game, we don’t make any excuses for it.  We didn’t play well, and they beat the snot out of us.”

The Bonnies currently hold a 1-7 record through the first two weeks of the season, but Threehouse said he understands that it is a long season.

“Everyone on this team is going to have to play well at some point and help us win a game,” Threehouse said, “They have all shown that they can beat good teams, so it’s just a matter of stepping up and doing it.”

With this harsh winter still in full force, the Bonnies have been practicing inside the Reilly Center and Butler Gymnasium.

The Bonnies do not play again until Wednesday, March 11 in the Rainbow Wahine Classic in Honolulu, Hawaii.  It is a five-day tournament going through the 15th, and the Bonnies have one game every day.

“We are going to be there to play softball, not to lie on the beach,” Threehouse said. “We have to be at the top of our game, and I’m looking for them to take a step forward. When the game is on the line, we need to learn how to win those one-run ball games, not lose them.  That is the next step.”

The softball season goes until the end of the semester, which is the second week of May.

The end goal is to make it to the Atlantic 10 championship, but Threehouse said he recognizes that right now it’s about the team’s journey.

“We need to worry about the process,” Threehouse said. “Our goal is to get one percent better every day, and if we can keep doing that kind of stuff, then hopefully at the end of the year we can have a shot.  If that means learning from winning, or learning from losing then so be it.”

The Bonnies will continue to compete on the road until the beginning of April when they open their conference home schedule with La Salle  on April 4.

As for Threehouse, this is his 19th year as head coach and he is the all-time winningest coach in St. Bonaventure softball history.
