Sophomore Casey Hale is bringing back the Anime club.

Restarted a few weeks ago, the Anime Club aims to serve as a place for people that have similar interests to join together in discussion.

“Ours is focused on Japanese animation,” Hale said. “A well-known example is Dragon Ball Z.”

Recently, the club’s meetings have been focused on sharing the other types of anime that they enjoy with the group, Hale said.

“We’re thinking of other activities that we can do campus wide,” Hale said.

Hale is a veteran Anime club member, having been part of one in high school. She was interested in revitalizing the previously diminishing club.

“I’ve always been involved with Anime and Manga and have cosplayed and gone to the conventions for a few years now,” Hale said.

Cosplaying is when people dress up like characters and get together to showoff their costumes and interact with other fans.

Freshman journalism and mass communication major and member, Sydni Kreitzburg is looking forward to this new opportunity, after being part of an anime club in high school.

“I prefer anime over American cartoons; mostly, because of the art style,” Kreitzburg said. “Although, recently, more modern comics are reaching into different styles.”

The club meets every Friday in Plassman room 200 from 4 to 5 p.m. Their advisor is Chisato Dubreuil.

She and Hale said they both encourage more students to join.

“There are only four members so far, but hopefully we can reel in some more people,” Kreitzburg said.
