After another weekend of splitting its matches, the men’s soccer team will look to earn a victory in this weekend’s only game Sunday Oct. 6 at 2 P.M. at St. Francis.

Last weekend, they started to put it all together with a win against Binghamton. According to Coach Mel Mahler, the team was confident going into Sunday’s game against Canisius, but went home with a loss. It now comes down to this weekend, their last non-conference game, for them to put it all together. They have been working hard all week to make sure they come out like they did last Friday and not a repeat of their Sunday overtime loss, Mahler said.

This has been a full week of practice for the team, something unfamiliar to them due to only playing one game this weekend on Sunday. The team knows that the extra rest could help them succeed in this weekend’s game.

“They continue to call upon their key players to shinethrough seniors Nick Perillo, Brad Vanino and Emmett O’Connor. Their success on the attack and scoring has been in these three players’ hands all season, according to Mahler and they continue to look to do that into conference play.

“We have to look at this game this Sunday against St. Francis like any conference game; championship mentality,” Mahler said. “Do everything we can to win, not give up soft goals, and execute on a high level.”

Just like any college sport, conference play is important and becomes the final stretch for the playoffs. In the A-10, there are 13 teams, and only eight teams make the playoffs, so every game counts from now on.
