Tennis teams hosts Colgate

The women’s tennis team (2-3) defeated Robert Morris, 4-3, and Slippery Rock, 4-3, and lost at Pittsburgh, 7-0, on Friday, while the men’s team (1-1), lost to Robert Morris, 4-3. The men and women host Colgate Saturday with matches starting at 11 a.m.

The Colgate men visit Olean with a 1-3 spring record after losing at Fairfield, 4-3, and winning at Hartford, 7-0, last weekend. The Colgate women play the Bonnies after winning their first two matches of the spring season at Manhattan, 5-2, and at Hartford, 7-0, last weekend.

Junior Luke Gensburg leads Colgate’s men with a 3-1 record in first singles and 2-1 record in first doubles. Junior Bobby Berkowitz will play the Bonnies after two victories in second singles last weekend.

Junior Alex Petrini leads Colgate’s women with a 2-0 record in second singles and a 1-1 record in first doubles. Junior Kelsey Shea leads the Raiders in doubles, posting a 2-0 record in first doubles. Shea lost a three-set match at Manhattan in first singles before dominating her first singles opponent at Hartford, winning 6-0, 6-0.

Senior Kathryn Kvas and freshman Taylor Cole led the Bonnies in Friday’s match against Robert Morris, winning two singles matches and a doubles match. Kvas defeated Clarissa Chen in third singles, 6-0, 6-1 and Cole defeated Marie-Sophie Heine in fourth singles, 7-5, 6-2. Kvas and Cole teamed up for a victory in second doubles, 8-3.

Sophomores Fatya Amiri and Marissa Brossard won first and second singles but lost in their pairing in first doubles.

Amiri and Brossard led the Bonnies in Saturday’s match against Slippery Rock, winning two singles matches and a doubles match. Amiri defeated Sarah Joumond, 6-0, 6-2 in first singles, and Brossard defeated Elisabeth Yetiskul, 6-1, 6-4 in second doubles. Amiri and Brossard shut out Joumond and Yetiskul in first doubles, 8-0.

Kvas and Cole won singles matches for Bona’s, but lost in their second doubles pairing.

Robert Morris defeated the Bonnies men despite senior Luis Guevara and junior Javier Ortiz’s two singles victories and a doubles victory. Guevara won in second singles, 6-3, 6-4 and Ortiz won in third singles, 6-4, 7-5. Guevara and Ortiz teamed up in first doubles, winning 8-3.

Junior Elliot Fanshel and freshman Celso de Vera Rehberger lost in three-set singles matches. Fanshel lost in first singles, 3-6, 7-5, 6-3 and de Vera Rehberger lost in fourth singles, 6-4, 2-6, 6-0.

The women ended last weekend with a 7-0 loss at Pittsburgh on Sunday. Brossard forced Jocelyn Lu to a third set, but lost in second singles, 7-5, 2-6, 10-6.
