CAB prepares for Spring Weekend activities

Students across campus are looking forward to the lengthily prepared games, food and activities planned for the campus-loved Spring Weekend.
“It should be fun! Some time to relax, just being able to enjoy my last weekend here at Bonaventure before summer break,” said Emma Wilmot, a freshman education major.
“I’m expecting spring weekend to be a really nice time for our whole school community. I think it is a great way for students to be able to celebrate the school year together and have fun before taking final exams,” said Kristen Talty, another freshman education major.
Kirsten Orshal was a part of this Spring Weekend’s planning committee and offered some advice for freshman like Emma and Kristen experiencing Spring Weekend for the first time.
“Spring Weekend is a really fun time to spend with friends. Also, know that all school policies are still in effect, so be smart, take care of your friends and be safe. Most importantly, have fun. It is meant to be a fun time,” said Orshal.
Starting off Spring Weekend are four different activities anyone can join in on. From 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. today the mechanical buffalo, soccer darts, Extreme Rush and an obstacle course will be set up for students.
These four, along with a photo booth, wrecking ballz, inflated twister and spin-art frisbee will then be available tomorrow from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
“I’m excited to watch my friends fall and fail in the obstacle course and whatever spin-art frisbee is!” said Wilmot.
Kickball tournaments will begin today at 4 p.m. and continue at 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. Tomorrow’s tournaments will begin at 9 a.m. and be played every hour throughout the day.
A Just Dance Party led by Spectrum will be tonight at 8 p.m. until around 10 p.m. in the Plassmann Quad. If it rains, it will be moved to the Rathskeller.
Around the same time as Just Dance is the Canvas Paint Night at 9 p.m. in the Doyle Dining Hall. Only those who previously signed up on my.sbu.edu can attend.
Tomorrow night, there will be a Gift Card Bingo and ‘Price It Right’ at 6:30 p.m. and 9 p.m. respectively. Gift Card Bingo will be in the Hickey Dining Hall, while ‘Price It Right’ will be in the Walsh auditorium.
“I am very excited for the ‘Price it Right’ game show on Saturday night. It’s like the price is right, so lots of chances for free money,” said Orshal.
Meals throughout Spring Weekend had already been planned earlier in the week. Students should have already gotten their meal bracelets as well. If not, then today until 2 p.m. is the latest time to get it.
Food around campus will be able to be bought using these bracelets. Bracelets use swipes depending on your current meal plan.
Students with unlimited plans get one bracelet each with no penalty or additional cost to their food. Students with a 75 block meal plan will be able to use four of their current swipes normally used in the Hickey or Francis Hall for a wristband for food. Students with a 100 or 150 block meal plan will be the same, but will use five of their current swipes.
Those with no meal plan may pay for a bracelet with Flex dollars or cash, no cards, at the cost of $26.65. If anyone runs out of swipes, they can always buy a bracelet for more swipe use.
“I absolutely love the food that spring weekend has to offer,” said Orshal. “Chicken nuggets and corndogs, and I am crazy about deep fried oreos!”
Tonight’s dinner from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. includes, but is not limited to, chicken patties (with a vegan option), corn dogs, walking tacos, pasta salad, root beer floats, churros and much more.
Tomorrow’s lunch from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. includes, but is not limited to, chicken nuggets, hamburgers, mac & cheese, watermelon, slushies and fried dough.
Tomorrow’s dinner, from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m., includes, but is not limited to, build your own wrap, pizza, rice crispy treats and fried oreos.
“Anyone can join the planning committee, and they were open to discuss new ideas people brought in,” said Orshal.
If any student is interested in helping the Campus Activities Board, or CAB, with future events like Spring Weekend, one can email sbucab@sbu.edu. Any help offered is appreciated and gives the opportunity to put together elaborate events for Bonaventure students.
