The St. Bonaventure men’s soccer team suffered their first loss of the season last night during a hard-fought double overtime battle against Houston Baptist, losing 2-1. It is the fourth consecutive overtime game for the Bonnies and second consecutive double overtime game.

The Huskies struck early when Dequan Thomas netted a goal in the sixth minute.

The Bonnies were trailing a majority of the game until senior midfielder Kieran Toland found the back of the net in the 83rd minute. The goal was assisted by senior midfielder Paul Afful. Junior goalkeeper Luke Iacobellis kept St. Bonaventure in contention throughout the game and capped the night off with eight saves.

The Brown and White finished with 13 shots on goal compared to the Huskies who tallied 22.

The Huskies defense shut down the Bonnies attack by allowing zero shots on goal in the second overtime. In the 108th minute, Huskies forward Dominick Faletto netted an unassisted goal to capture the win for Houston Baptist.

The Bonnies look to bounce back at their home opener against the Canisius Golden Griffins on Friday, Sept. 8th at 7:00.
