Purple Eagles score nine straight, top Bonnies

The St. Bonaventure University women’s lacrosse team (0-2) dropped their second game of the season to the Niagara Purple Eagles Monday afternoon. Niagara stormed past the Bonnies in the first half, scoring 10 goals and winning 18-5.

Senior midfielder Scarlet Jaworski tallied her first goal of the season early in the first half, putting the Bonnies (0-2)  up 1-0. Senior attacker Erika Knaub would put the Bonnies up 2-1 at 24:20, but the Purple Eagles would then go on a seven-point run.

After trading goals to start the game, the Purple Eagles (1-0) eight straight goals, going up 9-2. Sophomore attacker Rachel MacCheyne led the way for the Purple Eagles in the first half, picking up a hat trick.

Senior attacker Rachel Perla finished the night with two goals, and senior attacker Maddison Appel added a goal as well.

Junior goalkeeper Morgan Conroy made her second start of the season and recorded ten saves on 21 shots for the Bonnies. Junior goalkeeper Kerrigan Cummins went in later in the game and made two saves on nine shots.

Niagara was led by Alexis Morales, who added five goals for the Purple Eagles.

Goalkeeper Andrea Francisco recorded seven saves on 11 shots on the night.

The Bonnies will next travel to Army West Point on Feb. 25 for a 1 p.m. match.
