Ditcher wins twice at A10 Match Play

The St. Bonaventure University golf team traveled Monday and Tuesday for Atlantic 10 Match Play at Weston Hills Country Club, in Weston, FL. It was the Bonnies return to competition after the fall season.

The Bonnies went up against VCU, Richmond, and St. Joseph’s, picking up a win in the latter.

In the VCU match on Monday morning, the Bonnies held it to a close contest, but fell 3.5-2.5.

The Bonnies got wins out of freshman Nolan Ditcher, defeating freshman Alston Newsom 2 and 1, and junior Corey Long, defeating senior Enej Sarkanj, 3 and 2. Then, earning half a point after drawing even was sophomore Matt Abendroth against senior Hanish Nagrani.

The Bonnies were then shut out Monday afternoon against Richmond, 6-0.

On Tuesday, St. Bonaventure was able to pick up the win against Saint Joseph’s.

Ditcher beat junior Tyler Sokolis, 4 and 2. Junior Patrick Sheerer won 3 and 2 against freshman Noah Henderson. Sophomore Matt Abendroth tied freshman Reed Winkler for half a point, as did sophomore Brent Morgan, who drew even with sophomore Ross Pilliod, and freshman Zach Chaddock who tied with senior Drew Taylor.

With the 2 victories and 3 ties, the Bonnies picked up 3.5 points to St. Joseph’s 2.5.

St. Bonaventure will return to play next on midterm break, March 4 and 5, at the Fort Lauderdale Intercollegiate, at Fort Lauderdale Country Club.
