The St. Bonaventure women’s basketball team won its 14th straight home game and 20th win of the season on Wednesday night. The Bonnies defeated the Saint Louis University Billikens in dominating fashion, by a score of 80-59. The Bonnies were 52.6 percent from 3-point range and 55.3 percent from the field.

The team has five games left to go in this season. Up next for the Bonnies is the University of Massachusetts Minutemen. Even though the Minutemen are winless in the A10, Head Coach Jim Crowley still wants the same game plan as every game.

“Our focus is always ourselves and doing what we do and preparing the best we can do to play the game we want to play,” Crowley said. “Within all they do, we want to make sure we are doing the stuff we do the best we can.”

Consistency is going to be key for the Bonnies as they approach the final games of the season.

“We found a level of that with the number of wins in a row, since earlier in the year we haven’t lost back to back games,” Crowley said. “I feel like we are pretty good with consistency, we just have to make sure we are ready to go every night because there are no breaks in this league, especially on the road.”

After missing two straight games, sophomore Miranda Drummond dropped 19 points and had four rebounds in the win against the Billikens. Crowley said he wasn’t surprised by her performance.

“No, I thought she got a lot of shots that she is good at,” Crowley said. “Miranda is a gamer, so it was good to see her be ready, and her teammates trusted her.”

Drummond was five for five from three-point land, and said she was struggling before the game with shooting but working hard in practice helped.

“Well, I have been in the gym since Monday, and my teammates helped me, which was good motivation,” Drummond said.

The Bonnies shot 52.6 percent from beyond the arc, and Crowley said he believes that’s what was the difference from last Wednesday’s loss to Virginia Commonwealth University.

“We made shots. We just had better offensive pace, we had people taking the shots that they are good at,” Crowley said. “You can learn from the past, but you can’t let it affect you; the season is all about the future.”

Winning at home is where the Bonnies shine the most but Crowley believes they have to play better on the road.

“We have tough road games, and we have to take care of business,” Crowley said. “It’s outstanding what we do here, and we are confident here, but we have to take a better focus on the road; we have to go on the road and play like we are capable too.”

Senior guard Nyla Rueter believes her team needs to keep doing what its doing for success.

“We just have to try to focus on what we do well and sticking to that,” Rueter said. “Our mentality is if we just stick to what we do and do it well we should have a good chance against almost anybody we face.”

The Bonnies will look to take on the Minutemen on Saturday. Tip off will be at 2 p.m.
